Our commitment
We want everyone at Britplan to have a fair opportunity to join our team, develop their skills
and progress. Decisions must be based on the requirements of the role, ability and
performance. This policy applies to recruitment and employment, including work at client
sites, and sets the standards we expect from employees, agency workers and
subcontractors.

Fair treatment
We will meet our obligations under the Equality Act 2010. We will not tolerate unlawful
discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, bullying or victimisation. The protected
characteristics are age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership,
pregnancy and maternity, race (including colour, nationality and ethnic or national origin),
religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
Discrimination may also involve a perceived characteristic or association with another
person. Everyone must treat colleagues, applicants, clients and members of the public with
dignity and respect.

Recruitment and selection
We will use clear job requirements and consistent selection criteria. Applicants will be
assessed fairly against the role, including any relevant SIA licence, right to work and
screening requirements. We will not accept discriminatory requests from clients or agencies.
We will offer reasonable adjustments for disabled applicants throughout recruitment. Health
or disability questions before a job offer will only be asked where the law permits. Any
equality monitoring information will be kept separate from selection decisions.

Opportunities at work
Access to training, promotion, pay, benefits and available shifts will be managed fairly, using
relevant and consistent criteria. Managers must be able to explain their decisions. We will
consider reasonable adjustments for disabled workers and review them as needs change,
working with the person and the client where appropriate.

Responsibilities
The Head of Operations owns this policy, oversees its implementation and arranges its
review. Contract Managers and supervisors must apply it in day to day decisions, explain the
standards to their teams and act promptly on concerns.
Everyone working for Britplan must follow this policy and report discriminatory behaviour. We
will explain it during induction and provide relevant guidance or training. Agency and
subcontract arrangements must reflect the same expectations.

Raising a concern
Anyone who believes they have experienced or witnessed discrimination should speak to
their Contract Manager, the Head of Operations or HR. If the concern involves that person, it
can be raised with another senior manager or a director. Employees may use the grievance
procedure; applicants and members of the public may raise a complaint with Britplan
management.
We will take concerns seriously, investigate fairly and promptly, and limit information to those
who need it to deal with the matter. We will explain the outcome and any available appeal
route. Nobody will be penalised for raising a concern in good faith, supporting a complaint or
giving evidence. An unsubstantiated complaint does not, by itself, mean it was malicious.

Action and review
Breaches may lead to disciplinary action, up to dismissal where justified following a fair
procedure. Concerns involving agency workers, subcontractors or clients will be addressed
with the relevant organisation and appropriate protective action taken.
The Head of Operations will review complaints, recruitment decisions, development
opportunities and feedback to identify unfair barriers and any action needed. Personal
information will be handled securely and in line with data protection requirements. This policy
will be read alongside our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy, grievance and disciplinary
procedures.
