Our commitment
Britplan Security Solutions Ltd is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its security operations
and office activities. We will use resources responsibly, prevent pollution and improve our environmental
performance through practical actions that suit our business.
This policy applies to our employees, agency workers and subcontractors working on our behalf. At client
premises, staff must follow the site’s environmental arrangements and raise any concerns with the relevant
Contract Manager.
Energy and water
We will avoid unnecessary use of electricity, heating and water. Staff should switch off equipment when it is
safe and authorised to do so, report leaks and faults, and follow client instructions. Security, life safety and
essential building systems must remain operational.
Travel and purchasing
We will plan site visits and journeys efficiently, combine trips where practical and use remote meetings where
suitable. Vehicles used for work should be maintained appropriately and unnecessary engine idling avoided.
When purchasing supplies, equipment and uniforms, we will consider durability, repair, reuse, packaging and
environmental impact alongside operational needs and cost. We will aim to reduce single-use items and
unnecessary printing.
Waste and recycling
We will reduce waste and reuse materials where practical. Staff must use the correct site waste and recycling
facilities. Batteries, electrical equipment and other waste requiring special handling must follow the relevant
disposal arrangements and must not be placed in general waste.
Preventing pollution
Staff must store and use any substances under our control safely and follow site instructions. Any spill,
damaged container, improper waste disposal or other environmental concern must be reported promptly to
the Contract Manager and the client’s site contact where appropriate.
Staff must only attempt to contain or clear a spill if trained, equipped and safe to do so. Where there is an
immediate risk to people or the environment, they must follow the site emergency procedure.
Responsibilities
The Head of Operations is responsible for implementing and reviewing this policy, setting suitable
improvement actions and ensuring that relevant environmental requirements are considered in our
operations.
Contract Managers and supervisors must explain the arrangements relevant to their sites, monitor working
practices and follow up reported concerns. All staff must follow instructions, avoid waste and suggest practical
improvements. Subcontractors must meet the standards relevant to the work they carry out for us.
Compliance and communication
We will comply with environmental legislation and other applicable requirements relevant to our activities. We
will work with clients and suppliers to support appropriate environmental practices and provide staff with the
information, briefings or training needed for their duties.
This policy will be communicated to staff and made available to clients and other interested parties on request.
Monitoring and review
We will review environmental concerns, incidents and opportunities for improvement through our
management meetings. Where information is available, we will monitor relevant measures such as paper use,
business travel and waste.
Improvement actions will have a named person responsible and a completion date. We will review progress,
address recurring problems and update this policy when required.
